“Waiting On” Wednesday: The Wild Things by Dave Eggers

“Waiting On” Wednesday is hosted by Jill over at Breaking the Spine.

One of my all-time favourite children’s books when I was little was Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. I was browsing the upcoming releases section of my local bookstore’s website, when I came across a book titled The Wild Things. It sounded neat, and reminded me of of Sendak’s book, so I clicked on the title; lo and behold, it’s a retelling of Sendak’s classic children’s book – for young adults! Let’s just say I’m pumped for this, and it comes out soon! I’ll be able to read it before the release of the movie.

The Wild Things The Wild Things
by Dave Eggers
Publication date: October 10, 2009

From indigo.ca:

Based loosely on the storybook by Maurice Sendak, and the screenplay co-written with Spike Jonze; it’s about the confusions of a boy, Max, making his way in a world he can’t control. His father is gone, his mother is spending time with a younger boyfriend, his sister is becoming a teenager and no longer has interest in him. At the same time, Max finds himself capable of startling acts of wildness: he wears a wolf suit, bites his mom, and can’t always control his outbursts. During a fight at home, Max flees and runs away into the woods. He finds a boat there, jumps in, and ends up on the open sea, destination unknown. He lands on the island of the Wild Things, and soon he becomes their king. But things get complicated when Max realizes that the Wild Things want as much from him as he wants from them.

Anyone else have any books that are set to be released within days that you just can’t wait for?
