Monster Readathon

I was already planning to have today be a personal readathon day, but then I remembered that The Book Monsters are having a readathon this whole week! I’m two days late getting this up, but joining in gladly! My goal pile of books is below, and I’ll update this post as I go.

Tackle Your TBR Readathon

Read-a-thon Tackle Your TBR

After the crazy busy week I ended up having during the last Bout of Books, I feel another readathon is needed. And since I now have every morning free unless I’m called in to substitute, this two week period works perfectly! Tressa @ Tressa’s Wishful Endings and Laura @ Colorimetry are hosting the Tackle Your TBR Readathon (clicking their banner above takes you to the sign up post) from today, September 8th to September 21st. I’m going to tackle the same pile I had for Bout of Books, but add in Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano and Unbreakable by Kami Garcia to the list of potential books to read. I’m hoping to get four books done, two each week, but will definitely aim for more!

Bout of Books 8.0 Progress Updates

This is my post for updates as the week goes on, and challenge answers. Happy reading everyone!

Challenge
One of today’s challenges is a bookish bucket list, hosted by Sarah Says Read. She asks: What is one bookish thing you want to do before you die? OR what is one thing you want to do before you die that was inspired by a book you read?

This one was so hard! I can literally write a bucket list for this, so to narrow it down to one (or two. I cheated. Sorry!) was ridiculous. So, I’d have to say that before I die I would absolutely love to meet either Katherine Paterson or J.K. Rowling (or both!), and to have my own in-home library.

Today’s challenge is hosted by Music Plus Books. The task? Re-title or re-cover the book you’re currently reading (or about to start reading).

Challenge
One of today’s challenges is hosted by Musings of a Bookshop Girl. I would have loved to do the Spine Poetry as well (you know I love it) but as it’s after midnight, I don’t think it would make any sense at all. Anyway! The TBR pile mini challenge has two questions:

1. Which 5 books are at the top of your TBR pile at this moment?

The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater, Vicious by V.E. Schwab, Perfect Ruin by Lauren DeStefano, Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken and Unbreakable by Kami Garcia

2. If I gave you a wad of cash and sent you into a bookshop right now, which 5 books would you buy to add to the stack?

Pulse by Patrick Carman, The Menagerie by Tui T. Sutherland & Kari Sutherland, Taken by Erin Bowman, The End Games by T. Michael Martin, Phoenix by Elizabeth Richards, Starglass by Phoebe North…oh wait, only five? Oops.

Bout of Books 8.0

Bout of Books

Bout of Books 8.0 starts up in just a week! August 19-25 will see me try and beat my previous Bout of Books goals and read 4 books this time. I usually manage 3 (better than my normal 1 or 2 a week) but I’d really like to hit 4. Which will be tough, since one of my best friends from high school is getting married on the 24th and I’m in the wedding. Guess I’ll just have to get everything read before I leave on the 23rd. Maybe an audiobook is in my future? My pile of choices is below.

Anyway! This is my official sign up for Bout of Books 8.0, and for those of you who don’t know, here’s a bit of what Bout of Books is all about, straight from the wonderful team behind it:

The Bout of Books read-a-thon is organized by Amanda @ On a Book Bender and Kelly @ Reading the Paranormal. It is a week long read-a-thon that begins 12:01am Monday, August 19th and runs through Sunday, August 25th in whatever time zone you are in. Bout of Books is low-pressure, and the only reading competition is between you and your usual number of books read in a week. There are challenges, giveaways, and a grand prize, but all of these are completely optional. For all Bout of Books 8.0 information and updates, be sure to visit the Bout of Books blog. – From the Bout of Books team

Challenge
Today was my day to host! I started out my rather full day with the intention to comment on all the poems, but oh my gosh you guys, we’re over 50 entries already! I’m loving that you’re all enjoying the book spine poems. I’ll get them all read by the end of this readathon and will comment on as many as I can without sacrificing sleep or reading time to do so, because they are awesome and deserve comment love!

Bout of Books 7.0 Book Spine Poem Challenge

Bout of Books

Welcome to the first challenge of Bout of Books 7.0! Here you will find a challenge that I love dearly – the book spine poem! Haven’t heard of them? It’s easy – using books you have on hand, line up their spines to create a poem out of the titles. There is no theme and no set number of books to use, just do what pops into your head. I’ve got an example for you below:

Boutofbooks7 Poem

You CAN use extra words outside of the books titles, BUT, you can only use as many extra words as you have books. So for mine, I used 7 books and so can use up to seven extra words. If you use ten books, you can use up to ten extra words, and so on and so forth. If you decide to participate and create a poem, you will be entered for a chance to win a book(s) of your choice up to $15 CAD from The Book Depository. The giveaway is international, ONLY for Bout of Books 7.0 participants. Have fun!

RULES
– must be signed up for Bout of Books 6.0
– must be 13 years or older to enter
– ends tonight May 13th at midnight CST (1am EST, 2am ADT – my time). That’s only 24 hours!
– number of extra words is = to number of books used
– leave a link to your poem in the comments! Picture can be uploaded to your blog, facebook, twitter, etc. Wherever you’re updating for Bout of Books.
